Hooray the sun is out! Woke up this morning to glorious sunshine - the wind must have blown away all the clouds. Was planning to go to some volcanic island today but I took too much time in the bank setting up my account so I missed the ferry (there's a limited service) so instead I took a ferry out to Waheke Island.
Waheke is a really pretty wee island which is know chiefly for its well-off inhabitants and its wine production. I arrived there without much of a plan (which will surprise most of you I know) and basically decided to shun all the crowds heading for the busses and instead took off into the countryside; I'm glad I did this. Following only my nose I managed to sniff out some pretty spectacular bays and cliffs. Afterwards I headed into the main town of Oneroa and bussed it round to Onetenagi beach. You can apparently do wine tasting tours aplenty on the island but I figured I'd give it a miss given that(a) it's winter; and (b) I didn't really fancy it - there's wine tasting to be done later in Napier I'm sure.
